Tihar

Tihar is the second greatest festival of the Hindus. It is also called Deepawali or the festival of lights. When we light the candles or Diyos or electric lamps in the dark evening, It really  seems true to its  name 'Deepawali'. It falls on the month of Kartik This festival is celebrated for five days.
This festival shows a symbolic relationship  between man  and animals. We worship crows, dogs, Govardhan, a pile of cow dung etc. Cow is known as Laxmi, the goddess of  wealth.
The  last day of  Tihar is Bhai Teeka.  On this  day  sisters but Teeka on their  brother's forehead. Before Teeka starts, they  worship Yama. The sisters bring  sweet and delicious food and presents for the brothers, and the brothers give them  money and  some other presents. Thus Tihar is the  festival to show a symbol of love between  brother and sisters.
This festival  is very  enjoyable. Young  people  play  Deusi and Vailo. But  together people  lose their  money playing  cards and 'Kauda'  with a bet of millions of rupess. Some  people  even become homeless during Tihar.
If we can avoid these misbehaves of the people  and the tradition of fashionable  activities, this  festival will  be very  enjoyable.
