Nepali people have many festivals. Dashain is the greatest festival of them all. It starts from Ashwin Pratipada and ends on Purnima. It is celebrated for fifteen days. We can see a different life style of the people during these days. The houses are washed up and even roads and streets are cleaned.
School, colleges, government offices and private institutes are closed for five to fifteen days. The people, living far away, come back home at Dashain. People spend a lot of money buying new clothes and delicious food.
Goddess Durga is worshipped from the first day and continued to the ninth day. On the eight day Durga is offers he goats, buffaloes, cocks and ducks. On the tenth day, the Hindus take Teeka, and Jamara as a holy Prasad. With Teeka, the seniors bless the juniors for thier long life, power and prosperity.
Everyone, mainly the students get free times to enjoy the holidays visiting their relatives, playing swings, meeting friends, and doing things of their interest. People play cards to enjoy the holiday.
These days Dashain has been a fashion. So the rich spend too much money . This also causes crime and robbery. We should try to make it simple.
